First one I didn't like....I think I did it wrong :)
Recipe #10 - (Powdered)
1 cup Vinegar (white)
1 cup Baking Soda
1 cup Washing Soda
1/4 cup liquid castile soap
- Mix well and store in sealed container.
- I find it easiest to pour the liquid soap into the bowl first, stirred in the washing soda, then baking soda, then added the vinegar in small batches at a time (the recipe foams up at first). The mixture is a thick paste at first that will break down into a heavy powdered detergent, just keep stirring. There may be some hard lumps, try to break them down when stirring (it really helps to make sure the baking soda isn’t clumpy when first adding).
I think what I did wrong is put the vinegar and baking soda in first and lets just say it reminded me of a science experiment gone wrong....probably should have stopped there but went on to try anyhow :)
Next one I tried was:
Recipe #7
2 cups Bar soap (grated)
2 cups Washing Soda
2 - 2.5 gallons hot water
- Melt grated soap in saucepan with water to cover. Heat over medium-low heat and stir until soap is dissolved.
- Pour hot water in large pail, add hot soap and washing soda. Stir very well.
- Use 1 cup per full load.
Lavender is used as an antidepressant :) Hoping to keep the winter blues away this year!!
So there you have it....I have also learned the hydrogen peroxide can be used in place of bleach :)

Hey you!! I only have a minute because we are packing to go away for a week...but I wanted to say that YES I used to make laundry detergent. I guess I don't really know exactly why I stopped all together except I just think I got into a funk. I definitely didn't like it as much as Tide and now we have an HE machine so not sure if you can use homemade or not. I used Borax, Washing Soda and grated Fels Naptha Soap.
My niece said you bought her mama pads and had her make your daughter some customs! Too cool!!! I hope your daughter likes them!! Love, Bridget
LOL--the science experiment result could have happened here, too! I think I'd better stick with Gain!
